Adventure for Christmas Cards with Hallmark.

I love snail mail and I send it and receive it regularly. There is something about holding someone’s words and thoughts in your hand, reading their handwriting, seeing the pen that bleeds or the paper with all the eraser marks, that is so much more personal than a text I can read on a screen. The immediacy of texts are great (no doubt about that) but the time and thought it takes in sending a card or a letter through the mail speaks volumes–the random scrawls across a page, thank you notes, love letters, Christmas Cards.

And so it goes without saying that my love for snail mail only increases during the holidays. I look forward to the time every year when my mailbox fills with well wishes from friends and family across the globe. Naturally, I want to find the perfect cards to send back to them. I almost always go to Hallmark Gold Crown because the quality and the prices cannot be beaten. Since I write here about everyday adventures, you might even call this outing the adventure for Christmas cards with Hallmark.

This year I immediately saw a bold Nutcracker card (it’s 3-D too) and knew I would be sending this out. You see, my mom collects nutcrackers and it’s become a special symbol between us. Every year I try to find her the most outrageously funny or gorgeous nutcracker I can. Sometimes I even make them myself. But when I see a nutcracker, I think of my mom. Sharing something meaningful with those I love is important to me during the holidays. Even if it cannot be a big extravagant gift, a card with a special thought behind it goes a long way in my book.

As I picked up the card box, I realized it was part of Hallmark’s Tin Collection; 16 gorgeous cards fill a charming tin. It’s a nice design touch, of course (and who doesn’t love cute touches like this? I do!). But I was also thinking of ways I could repurpose these tins for Christmas (and I am!).

As I continued to scan the aisle, my eye was caught by the royal colors and bit of glitter on these Three Wisemen Cards, which also happened to be a part of the tin collection.

As you probably know, Hallmark Gold Crown has quite a selection of cards, especially holiday cards this time of year and so the fact that I found two beautiful and meaningful options in a sea of other pretty cards was cool. It makes it easy to see how anyone could find a card to fall in love with there to send to their friends and family. (I must give a shout out to Jen at the store for directing me to right aisle and approving my choices).

So I sat at my desk and began to write out the cards, deciding to send the Nutcracker to some and the the Three Wisemen to others. I pulled out my phone where my address books resides and began to address envelopes.

I’m not finished yet because I like to take my time and make my messages personal (sorry, you don’t get to see a picture of those words because they are that special). Since I am single and not including a photo, I still want them to feel like they have a part of me with them.

And this year, I have no doubt they will.
